Sleep tight 🙂
i’m a hopeless Romantic. walk with me in the graveyards of gothic cathedrals, transcend the confines of elitist and rationalistic structures of discourse, and join me in an eternal spiritual quest for the strange and sublime.
Laugh, oops?
Took me a good 20 minutes to realize the shop keep was hitting on me.
Literally said to the shop keep, “How much is that Edward Gorey book in the window?” before glancing up to watch my bus drive by, off, and away. Worth it.
Going to bake bat shaped cookies, brew black coffee, and read Gorey all night.

Ms. Gardot, your timing is inspired.
Really weird to be walking through the neighborhood that represented some of the best and worst times.
NOBODY CAME TO YOUR PARTY BECAUSE YOU ARE TERRIBLE
Gothic villain problems.
Another: mixing up your guest list and menu.
Manly
Going to Home Depot to buy a wrench and some flowers.
Monday
Today is Monday.
Hang in there.
Tonight there is moonlight. And moonlight, on Mondays, is a bit more special.
Those who count time will speak in moments, poets in heartbeats, engineers in clocks, ghosts in whispers, will-o-wisps in pulses, mermaids in gulps, shadows in stratagems.
The world is large and beautiful schemes begin and take hold on Mondays, too. Hard to believe but certainly true.
A toast, breakfast or drink depending on your hemisphere, in hopes your Monday is magical.
I’m very excited to go home tonight, turn off my phone, turn on my tv-cartoon-addams family-tim burton-munsters box, and not talk to anyone for awhile.
If I owe you an email, wait.
This is not an angsty “go away” comment, this is “a lot of people I regularly email read this tumblr, you know the drill. We’ll talk soon.”
A note from Atticus
Had a lovely cup of tea with a ghost. Barely resisted the urge to ask how a ghost could drink tea. Didn’t want to be rude.
Years upon years of dealing with the other-than-living and I’m still learning new things.
YES YES FOR THE LOVE OF SHADOW AND ASH YES FOREVER YES.
I mean.
No actually I meant every god damn word of that.

This wasn’t the first time
“Can I help you sir?”
“Oh, no, I’m just exploring, thank you.”
“So you don’t have business here?”
“Well, you see I’m an artist of… sorts…I make things.”
“…okay?”
“And I wanted to see how far I could get into your building, how deep I could go, before anyone noticed. Quite far, apparently.”
(A brief pause, then both, at the same time)
“I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” / “I’m on my way out the door, yes, thank you.”
passion is intelligent and beautiful and way underrated. fuck sadness and aloofness and apathy being associated with intelligence, and fuck world weary assholes who don’t get that and decide to romanticize the feeling of being disconnected and empty
Best things about being Southern
1. Accurately being able to use the term “gentleman of Southern persuasion”
2. Being able to fry really, really great chicken
3. Swamp witch truths and fiction
4. Every-goddamn-thing else.
Hit a groove and kept going
My schedule called for a quiet weekend so I programmed 99% of ESC’s upcoming blog. The last 1% will be handled by the dev crew.
I bought the framework rather than building it entirely from scratch, which is a mild ego bruise. This is a non-issue long term. The framework was gorgeous but had a LOT of edges to polish.
It’s a really lovely piece of work and I am hella excited for it.
It’s extremely easy to read and browse, it’s built for long AND short content (a huge problem a lot of blogs have), set up to work extremely well with multiple authors.
It handles editorials, pictorials, serialized stories, reoccurring columns and one-off stories.
SEO ready, balances “I want to share this” without “HI YOU JUST GOT HERE WANNNA SHARE EVERYTHING?!”
Desktop, small laptop, tablet, phone, Internet-enabled toaster. Whatever.
Subtle details as you poke through it. Enjoyable without being overwhelming.
Streamlined information architecture. Easy to write for.
Excited to launch it this summer.

“Your mother is going to kill you when she sees you cut holes in her $300 sheets.”
I dreamed tonight that you were making laser-cut frames for glasses and they were cool!
Ha!
Edward Gorey
Guys, this scene was written in the mid 90s.
Thank you, Charlie Day.
Playing dead.
Same.

I am 98% annoyed at my problems and 100% grateful I have nerds I can call on to fix them.
MOTHER! FUCKER!
For about two days, I have been struggling with an extremely important slice of Obituary’s development.
And it is 98% there, this issue, but that 2% has completely stumped. And without that 2%, the entire segment is for naught. And I hate admitting this, but even at my prime as a programmer (2 years ago), this is bigger than me.
I am mildly frustrated at spending 2 days on it, but I have to admit the exercise better solidified what I want it to do. So this isn’t a total waste.
I can throw an email to the dev crew. Josh can fix this.
The Very Hungry Rust Monster is a mini-comic I made a few years back. I’ve seen it floating around Tumblr without attribution recently, so I’ve uploaded a higher-resolution version, properly credited.
Edward Gorey loved cats (and books). A lot. Sometimes more than people.
Sometimes cats and books are easier to love than people. IJS.
It’s like looking into my future.
The crew is at a greasy Chinese restaurant. The only other patron: “Hey are you guys food writers or something?” / “Nope, Halloween bloggers.”
Cooking: Murder training??? That Hannibal guy might be on to something.
This is rad as hell

Give us $200,000 and we will create “I black heart it” — a cruel visual social network. Sources will be brutally enforced.
Dusting off the web developer part of my brain and building a custom author’s profile sidebar for for Obituary. Hell yes.
There is no difference between web development and sorcery, btw.

Gothic Charm School
New post time at Gothic Charm School! Returning to the Spooky Life (Back to the Crypt).
“Oh I didn’t know, here let me promote it!”
Sometimes my artwork gets lifted and passed around without credit — because Internet.
99.9% of the time I have approached someone about it, they promoted it, not having known the source.
“Work hard, be nice to people” works well, heh!
This fills me with a lot of feelings.
I have always loved this animation.
