Monday

evilsupplyco:

Today is Monday.

Hang in there.

Tonight there is moonlight. And moonlight, on Mondays, is a bit more special.

Those who count time will speak in moments, poets in heartbeats, engineers in clocks, ghosts in whispers, will-o-wisps in pulses, mermaids in gulps, shadows in stratagems.

The world is large and beautiful schemes begin and take hold on Mondays, too. Hard to believe but certainly true.

A toast, breakfast or drink depending on your hemisphere, in hopes your Monday is magical.

I’m very excited to go home tonight, turn off my phone, turn on my tv-cartoon-addams family-tim burton-munsters box, and not talk to anyone for awhile.

If I owe you an email, wait.

This is not an angsty “go away” comment, this is “a lot of people I regularly email read this tumblr, you know the drill. We’ll talk soon.”

This wasn’t the first time

“Can I help you sir?”

“Oh, no, I’m just exploring, thank you.”

“So you don’t have business here?”

“Well, you see I’m an artist of… sorts…I make things.”

“…okay?”

“And I wanted to see how far I could get into your building, how deep I could go, before anyone noticed. Quite far, apparently.”

(A brief pause, then both, at the same time)

“I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” / “I’m on my way out the door, yes, thank you.”

Hit a groove and kept going

My schedule called for a quiet weekend so I programmed 99% of ESC’s upcoming blog. The last 1% will be handled by the dev crew.

I bought the framework rather than building it entirely from scratch, which is a mild ego bruise. This is a non-issue long term. The framework was gorgeous but had a LOT of edges to polish.

It’s a really lovely piece of work and I am hella excited for it.

It’s extremely easy to read and browse, it’s built for long AND short content (a huge problem a lot of blogs have), set up to work extremely well with multiple authors.

It handles editorials, pictorials, serialized stories, reoccurring columns and one-off stories.

SEO ready, balances “I want to share this” without “HI YOU JUST GOT HERE WANNNA SHARE EVERYTHING?!”

Desktop, small laptop, tablet, phone, Internet-enabled toaster. Whatever.

Subtle details as you poke through it. Enjoyable without being overwhelming.

Streamlined information architecture. Easy to write for.

Excited to launch it this summer.

MOTHER! FUCKER!

For about two days, I have been struggling with an extremely important slice of Obituary’s development.

And it is 98% there, this issue, but that 2% has completely stumped. And without that 2%, the entire segment is for naught. And I hate admitting this, but even at my prime as a programmer (2 years ago), this is bigger than me.

I am mildly frustrated at spending 2 days on it, but I have to admit the exercise better solidified what I want it to do. So this isn’t a total waste.

I can throw an email to the dev crew. Josh can fix this.
